Review :

MAHABHARAT, the animated movie starts preaching in the first scene itself and also ends up shouting its sermon [of living in harmony] in the last scene.

For a movie to hit the right buttons with the audience, it should first have an arresting subject, besides being delivered in style. Here, even though the subject is age-old, the delivery is drab.
No one puts new wine into old wineskins, for the wine would burst the wineskins, and the wine and the skins would both be lost. New wine calls for new wineskins. This was aptly demonstrated by Arnab Chaudhary in ARJUN THE WARRIOR PRINCE in last year's animated film that revolved around Mahabharat.

But here, it was creativity at its best with the director focusing only on one character from the epic (Arjun) and telling the story in a novel manner. Even the animation was superb, apart from the narration and execution.

Sadly, the same cannot be said about Aman Khan's MAHABHARAT. The only novel feature is using the face of the actors whose voice has been used for the characters. Every actor from Amitabh Bachchan to Ajay Devgn to Anupam Kher match their voice to the character. However, while most characters stand out in its presentation, the character of Draupadi (Vidya Balan) is bhayanak! There is not softness to her caricature at all.

The music is something that could have scored big time since a few key moments are told in the song. There is no melody in the singing and no soul in the music. Whatever happened to the use of soft acoustic instruments!

If only the makers had to pay that much extra attention to the animation and execution like they did with the characters and their faces, this epic would have been quite different and would have gone down well with the kids.
